Citrus is the training ground for numerous vocational programs. Students, if they wish to excel in their chosen field in the next century, will need to become aware of the safety and environmental issues that are directly relevant to their chosen fields. Many vocational areas use specific chemicals, procedures and processes that require special attention to safeguard the user's health, that of their clients AND the environment. One important way to learn is to observe the college staff and faculty practicing the application of active awareness to personal and environmental safety while teaching and working in the classrooms and labs.
Students moving into advanced academic programs at other institutions may also need to understand the growing impact that environmental health and safety practices may have on social, psychological, ecological and economic issues; and their effects both locally and globally.
The 21st century will find us all living on a much smaller planet. As the speed of change continues to quicken, humans must become increasingly more aware that no action is in isolation from another - that includes choices about environmental health and safety.
