Welcome! You are either enrolled in, or you are interested in possibly enrolling in Business Law 160. This course is intended to give an overview of the law as it applies to business.
We will spend the first few weeks building a foundation of what the law is, and examining the American legal system and its constitutional authority. The next few weeks will be a brief study of torts and crimes. The remainder of the semester will be devoted to the study of contracts. We will first define contracts under the common law, and then concentrate on contracts for the sale of goods that are governed by the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) and international sales law.
Details: Details regarding the course are set forth in the class website. When you go there, pay attention to the syllabus section and the assignment section. We will cover the text at the rate of approximately two chapters per week. There are three exams (60%) and written and online assignments (40%). Please note that this is a Hybrid class, which requires students to come to class as well as complete several assignments online. All exams will be taken in the classroom.
The exams include both multiple-choice questions, true and false, as well as short essay questions. The online assignments are developed to help you prepare for the exams and also so you will know the type of questions that will be asked on the exams. You will need a CONNECT password to complete the online assignments. The new textbook in the Owl Bookshop comes bundled with the CONNECT password. Once you get to the Blackboard welcome page, click on the Business Law and the Legal Environment I course link on the right, and you will go to the course site. Familiarize yourself with the course site and if you have any questions please email your instructor with your concerns. Get your textbook and get started with your initial assignments. A major key to your success in this course will be keeping up with both the reading and the other assignments.
