    COURSE DESCRIPTION
    Introductory course to statistics and probability, descriptive analysis, presentation of data, hypothesis testing, statistical inference, normal curve, chi-square, and applications in diverse disciplines.

    MATERIAL AND CAPABILITIES ASSUMED

    • Assessment and Learning Account: ALEKS account for entire semester. An account code can be purchased separately in the bookstore or directly from the ALEKS site once your temporary access has ended.

    • The Nature of Probability and Statistics
    • Frequency Distributions and Graphs
    • Data Descriptions
    • Probability and Counting Rules
    • Discrete Probability Distributions
    • The Normal Distribution
    • Confidence Intervals and Sample Size
    • Hypothesis Testing
    • Testing the Difference between Two Means, Two Variances, and Two Proportions
    • Correlation and Regression
    • Other Chi-Square Tests

    Exams and Assignments

    • There will be five Exams (All comprehensive).
    • There will be ten scheduled assignments.
    • Ongoing weekly interactive assignments
    • Five Assessments based in your weekly interactive assignments.

    INTRODUCTION TO ALEKS

    Most of your time in this course will be spent in the ALEKS system. Thus, one of your first assignments is to go through these video presentations, and web pages to familiarize yourself with the ALEKS system.

    • Update email on WingSpan so it will load to Blackboard
    • Your WingSpan ID becomes your Blackboard Username
    • Your WingSpan PIN number (six digits only) becomes your Blackboard password
    • To change these on Blackboard requires you change them on WingSpan
    • Data will be transferred from WingSpan to Blackboard on a regular basis

    Once you get to the Blackboard welcome page, click on the Introductory Statistics course link on the right, and you will go to the course site. Familiarize yourself with the course site and if you have any questions please email your instructor with your concerns. Get your textbook and get started with your initial assignments. A major key to your success in this course will be keeping up with both the reading and the other assignments.
