How many opportunities will you have throughout your college career to take a class that is essentially about exploring YOU and what you want to "be when you grow up"?

This is also a distance education course, which means that to be successful in this class you must possess the following:

  • Decent time management/organizational skills
  • A reliable computer & email address
  • A positive attitude
  • The self-discipline necessary to stay on top of the work without someone physically looking over your shoulder three times a week!

COURSE OBJECTIVES - What are we trying to accomplish here?
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Evaluate interests, personality, values and skills so informed career choices can be made
  • differentiate between a "job" and a "career"
  • demonstrate knowledge of occupational clusters & categories
  • recognize the symptoms of work-related stress
  • discuss why personal assessment is the key factor leading to career satisfaction
  • apply basic techniques of resume writing and job interviewing
  • identify and modify personal obstacles to decision making
  • analyze trends and issues in the changing workplace

GRADING RUBRIC

  • Participation points (* "quality" postings to the discussion board a minimum 3 separate days each week). Sixteen weeks X 10 points possible (per week) = 160 points
  • Final paper 60 possible points.
  • MBTI inventory 30 points
  • Final draft resume and cover letter will account for another 25 points each for a total of 50 possible points.

*Specific guidelines for participation and final paper points will be provided at the start of the term (IE: I will answer the question: "how do I make sure I get an "A" in this class?")

270 – 300 points  =  "A" (where you'll be!!)

240 – 269 points  =  "B"

210– 239 points  =  "C"

180 – 209 points  =  "D"

179 points or less =  "F"
