Students must be at least 18 years of age to enter this program. It is strongly recommended that the student be eligible for Reading 99 or its equivalent. If not, you should consult with the Program Director before enrolling. Other courses that are suggested for increased success in the program are: English, Psychology, and/or Computer.
This program requires your full attention, motivation and commitment to be successful, especially in the full-time program. Students who are working more than 20 hours/week, are taking additional courses, have a heavy sports schedule, are not motivated or have problems taking written or practical tests should consider the part-time program.
HOW TO APPLY AND REGISTER FOR THE RDA PROGRAM
Registration in the RDA program is on a first come - first served basis and requires department approval in order to register in the program. This is given when the student (who is already enrolled as a student at Citrus College) completes the following:
- Program Application
- Attendance at an RDA Program Orientation
- Submission of completed Medical/Dental forms
- Submission of Citrus College academic assessment or equivalent
- Submission of current CPR card (copy of both sides)
All paperwork needs to be submitted together - incomplete paperwork will not be considered or accepted.
Submission of paperwork can be done via mail or in person. It can also be brought the day of the Orientation.
1. PROGRAM APPLICATION
Complete, sign and submit.
2. RDA PROGRAM ORIENTATION
There are usually two orientations held prior to each semester. Dates and times are published in the course schedule (DENT 100). Contact Rina Gonzales at rgonzales@citruscollege.edu or (626) 914-8728 to reserve a spot. Orientations are held in the RDA classroom (Professional Center - PC 223). Allow two hours. You will be given a handbook; you need to bring a pen. Any paperwork that has not yet been submitted can be brought and turned in at that time. You are welcome to attend the Orientation without turning in any paperwork.
Fall 2012 Orientations
Thursday, June 7 at 2 p.m.
Thursday, August 9 at 2 p.m.
3. MEDICAL/DENTAL FORMS
This is a four page packet that consists of:
- Medical Exam. This includes basic health exam with clearance to participate in the program, proof of hepatitis B series/proof of first shot in series, TB, and tetanus (if no shot record is available for HepB, proof of immunity level of 10 mIU/mL must be provided). If you are a current Citrus student, this can be done in the Student Health Center at Citrus College, but it can also be done by your own physician. Full clearance with no restrictions is required.
- Health History. To be completed by applicant.
- Dental Exam. This is a basic exam to verify that the candidate has been seen by a dentist in the last year and has/is working toward a disease-free mouth.
- Medical Consent. Completed by applicant outlining what steps should be taken by college faculty in the event of a medical emergency.
4. ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT/EQUIVALENT
An academic assessment from Citrus College (reading, math, English) is required. An unofficial transcript showing proof of Associate degree or higher will serve as an acceptable equivalent.
The number of full/part-time students may be limited. When either the full-time or part-time track is full, only the remaining spots will be filled.
Note: students who score below the recommended reading level may be advised to take the program part time along with other classes that will increase their chance of success.
5. CPR
RDA Program students must have a current, valid Healthcare Provider CPR card that includes hands-on training. It must be either an American Heart Association or Red Cross provider. For your convenience, a CPR class taught by Health Science faculty is offered June 5 and August 8 from 6-10 p.m. in TC 230. MUST RSVP to Cliff Hadsell at chadsell@citruscollege.edu no later than one week prior. Students, however, can take any qualifying CPR course.
If you have any questions, please contact Rina Gonzales at rgonzales@citruscollege.edu or (626) 914-8728.
Any exceptions will be made at the discretion of the Program Director.
