Thrice as Nice

Glendora, CA (Women’s Soccer) -- The Citrus College Women’s Soccer team had a break out game in their final home contest of the season on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Owls scored not once, not twice, but three times, their highest scoring out-put of the season since they dropped a three spot on the Eagles back on October 16th.

The Lady Owls thoroughly dominated Tuesday’s contest, out-shooting the Eagles 23-3 and earning six corner kicks compared to Mission’s none. The Lady Owls had numerous opportunities in the opening minutes, but didn’t find pay dirt until the 33rd minute.

Freshman Megan Pearce got the ball around the 20 yard line and juked right, shaking her defender. With no one in between her and goal, but the keeper, Pearce sent a laser towards the box and it dipped into the bottom left hand corner of the net giving Citrus an early 1-0 lead.

Citrus would score less than ten minutes later, when they earned their second corner of the half. Linda Kommel would send the ball towards the goal with so much force that the keeper couldn’t hang on. The ball trickled out of goalie Nicole Gonzalez’s hands and into the net for a 2-0 lead at the break.

The Lady Owls’ final goal of the game would come in the second half, when freshman Tiffany Schneider got her seventh goal of the season when she rippled the twine in the 70th minute, after stealing the ball from the Mission defender around the 20 yard line.

With the win, Citrus improves to 5-12-3 overall and 3-9-1 in WSC play, while Mission falls to 2-15-2 overall and 3-9-1 in conference games. The Lady Owls will close out their 2009 campaign when they travel to Valley Glen, CA to take on LA Valley College. Citrus will be looking to avenge their earlier loss to the Monarchs, when Valley was granted a penalty kick in the waning seconds of their contest on October 20th. Game time for Friday’s match is set for 3:00 PM.
