Lady Owl’s Stay Undefeated At Home

Glendora, CA (Women’s Soccer) – Coming off their first loss of the year last Friday to Santa Barbara City College, the Citrus College women’s soccer team was looking to bounce back with yet another Western State Conference cross-divisional game at home Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Owl’s didn’t do exactly that, but they managed to stay undefeated at home as the tied with Cuesta College 2-2.

Trisha Eyer recoreded her second goal of the season in Tuesday's 2-2 tie with Cuesta College. In the first half of the game, the Lady Owls seemed to have gotten back up on their feet. They controlled much of the tempo throughout the first half, and were the first team to get on the board. Thirty-five minutes into the game, Bahar Khoshkbaryeh connected on her first goal of the season, with a laser she sent into the upper-left hand corner of the net and out of the Cougar’s goalie reach.

The Lady Owls’ celebration didn’t last long however, as less than a minute later, a defensive error led to a Cuesta goal. With a one on one situation the Cougar’s pulled Citrus goalie Kim Breazeal out of goal to contend their shot. Breazeal blocked the first shot, but wasn’t able to hang onto the ball. With no one in goal, Emily Miller got the rebound and put the ball into the back of the net to even things up at 1-1.

In a fast paced six minutes the Lady Owl’s would score yet again, when in the 41st minute Denise Hernandez delivered the ball to the feet of Trisha Eyer. Eyer kicked the ball which bounced on the ground and over the head of the Cuesta goalie to give Citrus a 2-1 lead.

The second half saw the Lady Owls begin to play a defensive game. In the second half alone, Cuesta out-shot Citrus 14-4. While Cuesta constantly pressured the Lady Owl defense, Breazeal began to put on a show in goal recording nine saves over the final fourty-five minutes. While Breazeal gave it her all, with less than five minutes left to play, Emily Miller struck again, as she took a Brittany Heringer corner kick, and placed the ball into the back of the net to tie the score up at 2-2.

With the tie, the Lady Owl’s move to 6-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in Western State Conference play. Citrus College will begin the Southern portion of their conference schedule as they open up WSC South play next Tuesday with a trip to Glendale College. Game-time is set for 7:30 PM.
