Another Game Winner

Glendora, CA (Women’s Soccer) – After facing their first close game of the year just two days ago, the Lady Owls had another nail biter in their 3-1 win over Allan Hancock College Tuesday evening. Just like in Sunday’s game, Kelli Johnston had the game winner in the 83rd minute.

While the score was close, the game being played on the pitch was not. The Lady Owls out-shot the Bulldogs 31-2, as the ball rarely crossed into Citrus territory. Along with out-shooting Allan Hancock by 29 shots, the Lady Owls controlled all the other categories including recording eight corner kicks to the Bulldogs’ zero.

It was Citrus who would get on the board first when Susan Werndle struck gold from 30 yards out. The lazer shot would give the Lady Owls a 1-0 lead. Allan Hancock would even things up, however, when ten minutes later in the 70th minute Kenna Wolter got the ball on a break-away and scored against Citrus goalie Brittany Sojka.

With the game on the line and the clock winding down, it would be Johnston to the rescue again, when she scored in the 83rd minute. Marcela Quezada fired a shot towards the Allan Hancock goalie who blocked the shot, but the goal keeper couldn’t hang on to the ball. Johnston was right there to take advantage and give the Lady Owls a 2-1 lead with seven minutes to play. Just six minutes later Citrus would put the game away for good as Pricilla Munoz connected on a goal off a Sydney Turrabiartes assist.

With the win the Lady Owls improve to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Citrus College hits the road for the second conference contest as they travel to Santa Barbara for a 1:00 PM match-up on Friday September 14.
