Lady Owls Win Barn Burner 

Glendora, CA (Women’s Soccer) – The Citrus College Women’s Soccer team continued their trail blazing season with a 4-3 in a barn-burner versus Glendale College. With the win, the Lady Owl’s firmly supplanted themselves in 3rd place in the WSC South.

Photo By: Nicki Shaw5 of the 7 goals scored in the match, came in the 1st half. The Lady Owl’s struck first and fast as Kristina Gianakos struck in the 1st minute. Her strike put the Lady Owl’s up 1-0. Glendale would retaliate 11 minues later in the 12th minute when Claudia Orellana scored off a Jaent De La O cross. Wasting no time at all the Lady Owl’s gathered themselves together and scored 5 minutes later as Kelli Johnston found the back of the net to put the Lady Owl’s up 2-1.

Up 2-1, the Lady Owl’s would score less then ten minutes later, this time off the foot of Crystal Vera who would strike off a Johnston assist, putting Citrus up 3-1. Glendale would pull themselves within one before the half was up when in the 36th minute Jaqueline Cuevas scored off a free kick.

The 2nd half proved to be less frenetic than the first with Citrus getting themselves ahead 4-2 when in the 48th minute Johnston struck again. Despite the 2 goal lead, Glendale refused to go away, and scored once more in the 69th minute when Claudia Orellana crossed the ball and Janet De La O bounced the ball into the back of the net. The Lady Owl’s would stave off the Glendale come back, however, and win the game 4-3.

With the win the Lady improve to 8-6-6 and 4-3-4 in conference. As their home schedule comes to a close, the Lady Owl’s will find themselves on the road for their final WSC contest, a road game at Santa Monica College. Game time will be at 3:00 pm.
