    Handful of Owls Excel at Easter Relays

    Santa Barbara, CA (Track and Field) -- The Citrus College Track and Field team had a handful of strong performances this week at the East Relays hosted by Santa Barbara City College. Three men and four women finished in the top two-thirds of their respective events, leading Citrus to a solid showing.

    For the women, Brooke Brown brought in the top finish. Brown finished third in the javelin with a throw of 26.71 Meters. Finishing in fourth place in the hammer throw was fellow thrower Cassandra Zolozabal. Zolozabal posted a distance of 36.59 Meters finishing fourth out of 18 competitors.

    Bringing home a fifth place finish in the 1,500 Meter run was sophomore Vanessa Esquivel. Esquivel finished the race in a time of 5:16.05. Rounding out the day’s top finishers was freshman Shawn Miller. Miller took 7th in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 13.47 seconds.

    On the men’s side, freshman Joshua Tenerowicz had Citrus’ top finish. Tenerowicz nabbed 7th in the javelin with a throw of 39.26 Meters. Also posting strong showings were Dennis Broderick and Tyler Hopkins who both garnered 10th place finishes in their respective races. Broderick took 10th in the Triple Jump (11.58M) and Hopkins was 10th in the 100 Meter Dash (11.50).

    The Fighting Owls will continue their 2010 slate this weekend as they participate in the Antelope Valley College Relays.
