Moorpark, CA (Track and Field) -- Citrus College freshmen Brooke Brown and Maya Avant were the highlights for Citrus College at the 2010 WSC Championships hosted by Moorpark College on Friday afternoon. Both Brown and Avant PR’ed, saving their best performance of the year for when it counted the most.
Brown, who has shown steady improvement all season long took 4th in the women’s javelin throw, with a personal record of 105 feet 4 inches. Her throw was seven feet further than her previous personal best. As for Avant, she PR’ed in the triple jump. Avant also took fourth place with a jump of 36 feet 11.5 inches. Brown and Avant led the women’s effort at the WSC Finals helping them to a ninth place finish with 21 points.
On the men’s side, it was somewhat slim pickens. Freshman Tyler Hopkins was the lone scorer for Citrus as he took 6th in the 200M Dash with a time of 21.91 seconds. Hopkins shaved a little over a tenth of a second of his previous best time in Friday’s finals. The men wouldn’t fare as well as the women, as they took 12th out of the 12 competing teams.
Most of the 2010 Track and Field athletes season came to a close this weekend, but a few will move on to next weekend’s SoCal Prelims at Saddleback College. Stay tuned to the Citrus web-site for the latest info on the Prelims.
