Valencia, CA (Men’s Golf) -- Citrus College freshman Brett Smith made his 2012 debut on Monday, and was impressive for the Fighting Owls. Smith fired a team best 78 along with sophomore Shane Favinger in helping lead the Owls to a sixth place finish out of seven competing teams.
Despite the seemingly low finish, things were tight throughout all the teams at the WSC Event hosted by College of the Canyons at Valencia Country Club. Canyons ran away with first place with a team score of 375, but the last six teams were separated by just 15 strokes. Santa Barbara finished in second with a score of 399, followed by Allan Hancock (400), Ventura (401), Glendale (401), Citrus (409), and Bakersfield (414).
Behind Smith and Favinger were a pair of 82’s from sophomore’s Ryan Belliston and Etsuyuki Fukaya. Sophomore Trent Groth rounded out the Owls’ scoring with an 89.
The Owls will be back out on the course on Wednesday for a non-conference scrimmage with Santiago Canyon College. Tee-time is set for 10:30 AM at San Dimas Canyon Golf Course.
